Exploding Card - Purple Butterfly on Lace
With an exploding card, the card itself gets tied with ribbon and when you untie the ribbon the pictures inside "explode" out because of the way they have been folded.
Full instructions are on this website - they are very easy to make and once you've made one or two you won't need the instructions.
Once made you can then either leave the card "as is" or attach it to the front of a larger card as a 3D topper.

I printed the design onto 120gsm paper twice and cut these out. I scored and folded an A5 card in a matching colour. I then scored and folded the exploding images and attached one to the bottom half of the inside of the card using double sided tape.
I cut the card to the size of this insert. I did the same with the second image but did not trim the white area from the back of the card.
I used this extra card to attach the other image so that the exploding images are side by side.
I then checked both butterflies were facing the same way up and attached the two parts of the card using double sided tape.
I trimmed the card from the front of the image and this gives a small gatefold like card. I attached ribbon around the card using double sided tape. I printed the design again onto good quality 255 photographic paper.
I cut the long strip of pattern design and attached this to the back of the card, over the ribbon, using strong double sided tape.
I also add the greeting to the back of the card using double sided tape. I cut the two small images from the photographic paper and attached one to each side of the front of the card, again over the ribbon, using double sided tape.
When the card is closed the ribbon can be tied in a bow. As an added extra I printed the small image butterflies again and cut out the butterfly images and attached one to a piece of acetate.
I used the second butterfly image to attach the acetate to the inside of the card.
Now the butterfly flies out when the card is opened. A gorgeous card when completed.
