Simple to put together (I did add an extra layer to the easel for strength), I used cardstock, glue, just a bit of foam tape (I chose to only layer the scarf) and a craft knife just for 3 small slits.

No major fussy cutting! I added a belly band and a smidgeon of lace just because I could (lots of bands and layers provided but you need not use it all).

I found a 5 inch pen at the dollar store which worked okay and fits into the box.

An added plus - the box is pretty enough to skip wrapping paper and the calendar card fits in great.
