I didn’t have any variegated thread to stitch these swirls so I have used 5 different threads in shades of blue.
Starting at the centre of the smallest swirl and working outwards, I have use single threads of royal blue polyester for 14stitches then changed to complete the swirl in metallic royal blue.
The next swirl is completed in glitter metallic royal blue. The last short swirl is completed in sky blue metallic thread and the long continuous swirls are completed in baby blue glitter metallic thread.
The 18 rice beads are all 8mm luminous metallic beads.
I have completed the stitching before attaching the beads onto a white 180gsm, 14x13.5cm card. I have used a powder blue permanent pen to edge the card.
To make the ribbon flowers I have used, royal blue for 2 of the flowers, sky blue for 3 of the flowers, teal blue for one, and pale aqua for 4 flowers, and for the one flower lower left I have used one each of the teal and aqua together.
To make the bunch of flowers I have first stitched the 2 narrow black stems at the top and the middle, I curved the green ribbon and attached these as the leaves then stitched the flowers in place.
The main card is ivory cut at 34 x 17m and scored and folded. I have used a pale blue metallic pen to edge both outside and inside edges.
I completed the insert, using cup917342_79993, Blue floral backgrounds backing paper A4 a design by Clare Walker, and attached a verse I have written, which is on my home page and is available on the free verses list, before attaching the topper.
I have secured the stitching by attaching a blank 13 x 12.5cm white sheet to the back of the work, using 6mm wide D.S. tape.
I then attached the topper to the blue floral backgrounds backing paper cut at 15x14.5cm, then onto a blue 16 x 15.5cm backing sheet using D.S. tape.
I then attached the toper to the card front. The tiny greenish yellow bow is attached using thickened white glue. The silver peel off strips and the sentiment I have used as embellishments.
This is a very easy design to follow and I have plans to make it again as a Christmas greeting using gold thread and a dove as the added picture.
It is a very versatile design, lending itself to many occasions. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
