Stitching with beads

This is a very clever stitching card design, as the pattern repeats in reverse. The hollow area in the very centre is an obvious space, for any ornamentation or sentiment. I chose to use the shades red and green, and use the hollow centre for a Christmas picture. I printed the pattern supplied, and, used my pricking tool to copy the pattern onto a light white card, which measures 13. X 11.5cm. I had previously printed this card with the Christmas Lace Effect design, by Clare Walker, cup814313_79993. The threads I used are both polyester. I needed to use shorter lengths of thread, than I would usually use, as the twisting effect that occurs with polyester threads, is more pronounced that with pure cotton threads. I used the green thread for all the swirls, that are a continuum, and also for the arch at the top of the design. I used the red thread for the little star shaped, circle designs, and also, the larger round design, situated at the centre bottom of the design. I used the red thread to attach all the beads, even the 2 metallic green rice beads at the centre bottom of the design. I completed all the thread work, by using the instructions as a guide, before I began to attach the beads. I also thought it wise to follow the beading instructions, for the right hand side first, and then to copy this, but in reverse, for the left hand side. Here is a list of the beads I used, and this is the order that I stitched them to the card front. I began with, the 5mm metallic red seed beads, at the top right hand corner, and then using the same thread, attached the three tiny red seed beads. I was then able to slip the thread through the back green stitching to reach the next 2 red seed beads position, and attach the 2 tiny red seed beads. Underneath the 2 rice beads I had just attached, there are 2 single tiny red seed beads, which I then attached. Moving slightly to the left of the green stitching, there are 3 red rice beads, and right near where I have placed the candle picture, there are 2 tiny red seed beads. Below this and still on the inside area of the green stitching, there is a single 2mm red round metallic bead. On the right hand side of the green stitching, I have used 3 red Rice beads, 6 round 2mm, red metallic beads, and 3 tiny red seed beads. I repeated this pattern of attaching the beads, onto the left hand side, in reverse, before I attached the other 3 beads.
I used 20 red metallic 5mm rice beads, 24 tiny red seed beads, 14 round 2mm metallic red beads, 2 green metallic 5mm rice beads, and 1 round 5mm gold bead. The total number of beads needed is 61 beads. I am very pleased I decided to make this card front, a Christmas card, as the colours really stand out well to display the unique pattern
To make the card front, and backing sheets, I cut a white card at 14.5 x 12.5 and a matte green card at 15 x 14cm, and used a gold metallic pen to colour the edges of the lace effect stitched card front, the white and the green backing sheets. I made a white card, 29cm x 15.5cm, and before I scored and folded it, I used a green permanent pen to colour all the edges. I used D.S. tape to attach the green backing sheet, padded D.S. tape to attach the white backing sheet, and red power tape to attach the stitched and beaded topper. I added some gold peel off corners. For the central picture, and the sentiment, I used a previously purchased sheet, Gold Christmas Candle designed by Marijke Kek, cup679378_936, and backed it with the same matte green, I used for the backing sheet.
For the insert, I used the same Christmas lace effect backing sheet and 2 of the smaller elements from the Gold Christmas candles sheet. I added a gold peel off snowflake and a gold peel off Christmas sentiment. This has turned out to be a most stunning effect for this Christmas card. Thank you Emy, I love it.
