Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
I have used the green and gold for Australia on this card topper. It seemed appropriate 12.5cm squares the Commonwealth Games are currently being hosted in my state of Queensland.
The design is magical and will suit many combinations of colours, and I will be able to reuse this many times.
I used a light cream card that I had aged slightly, using a smudging technique, with coloured pens and my finger tip.
The stitching for the green and yellow, I have used single thread embroidery floss, and for the orange stitching I have used single thread pure orange cotton.
I used 15 bright green 7mm glass tube beads and 15 tiny green seed beads stitched together, along the green swirls and for the gold sprays, I used 6 gold glass 7mm tube beads each with a gold glass seed bead attached.
To completer the tiny flowers at the end of each spray, I used 18 tiny gold seed beads, stitching them as pairs.
For the blooms on the end of the yellow flowers I used 15 yellow glass 5mm round facetted beads. Altogether I used 69 beads.
The base card I cut at 12.5cm square and aligned the pattern 1cm in from the closest stitching line. I used the single strand green embroidery floss to complete the scrolls using the instructions for stitch length as instructed on the pattern.
I then used the orange cotton thread to stitch the tiny circles which form the centre of each of the flowers and the stamens protruding from each of the flowers.
The yellow embroidery floss I then used to complete the petals on each of the flowers. I used the same green thread to attach green tube beads and the green seed beads along the green scrolls, following the pattern as a guide.
The gold tube beads and the tiny seed beads I attached using the yellow embroidery floss and the yellow round faceted beads I attached last of all, still using the yellow embroidery floss.
I crocheted the little hat brooch using the pattern I made using orange embroidery floss, the flower is yellow and green embroidery floss.
There is a stud at the back of the brooch which is pushed through to the inside of the main card.
The green backing sheet measures 13.5cm square and the yellow measures 14.5cm square and both are attached the white card front using regular D.S.
Tape. I have pushed the pin of the stud thorough all layers then attached the wing back and a small piece of protective foam to avoid small accidents when opening the card.
The crochet pattern is available on my home page. Pamela Horton
