Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
This is another amazing design, by Emy, I have enjoyed stitching and beading to make a beautiful greeting card for a special friend.
I did something quite different with the stitching for this topper and I have used sequins and bead clusters instead of spacers.
I completed the heart shaped stitching before I attached any beads. I used a single thread of dusty pink embroidery floss and a single thread of glitter gold metallic thread together.
This meant I had to use shorter lengths of thread, so as not to form twists in the thread as I was stitching.
This has given a lovely glisten to the stitching and made it a little bulkier. I had copied the design onto an 11cm square white 120gsm card, as I wanted it to easily conform to postage regulations.
The total of 165 beads I have used, includes 10 pink glass tube beads, 14 clear glass tube beads, 5 pink sequins, 10 gold metallic 6mm beads, 16 tiny bright pink glass seed beads and 110 tiny blue seed glass beads with pink centres.
The design looks complicated, however, once the stitching is completed and the central tube beads with the attached tiny pink seed beads, and the 5 sequins with the central pink seed bead and the pair of gold metallic beads were attached, it was very easy to finish attaching the beading design within each heart shape.
I have attached a 10.5cm plain white 80gsm copy paper backing sheet onto the back of the stitched and beaded topper to secure the stitching.
I have edged an 11.25cm white backing sheet with a bright pink permanent marker to use as the first backing sheet and a blue bird print cut at 12.5cm square as the next backing sheet and attached these both using D.S. tape to the 13.5cm square white gloss card front.
I have used the same print for the inserts. I have added 4 tiny little pink metallic finished hearts to each corners and used a gold fine line peel off strip along all 4 edges of the main image as embellishments.
I have included a photograph of the completed topper without the backing sheets for a clearer view of the beading and stitching I have used.
I am thrilled with the result, and I know my friend will love it. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
