I have made this mandala 2 twice and have used different beads and colours for each one which shows the versatility of this design.
The soft colours for the threads in the first card lend its’ finish to have a feminine appearance and the darker shades of the green and red, I will use again for a special Christmas card, and add hand drawn and coloured poinsettias.
I cut the white card for the design at 14cm square and used a gold metallic pen and ruler to outline the outside edges of this card.
The outer circle is a very pale apricot shade, the leaves are stitched in a very soft pale green, in the small circles I have used a soft taupe shade and the inner star shapes I have used a darker apricot shade.
The beads around the main circle, I attached next, are clear iridescent 8mm rice seed beads which I have coloured with a permanent pen in an apricot shade and stitched on with the pale apricot thread.
I then used my water colour pencils to colour in the leaf shapes in a pale green. Using the darker apricot thread I attached the 7mm silver rice beads that I had coloured with a dark apricot permanent pen, onto the base of the leaf shapes and then continued the stitching back into the central point.
Once I had attached these I then used 8 clear iridescent 5mm rice beads to colour with a pale green permanent pen and attach into position using the pale green thread, continuing the green stitching to the base of the pale taupe circle.
I then continued the stitching from the centre point to these green coloured beads using the darker apricot thread. I then used the green backing sheet cut at 14.5 x 14.5cm to attach with D.S. tape.
I made the main apricot card from a linen textured card and cut it at 29.5 x 14.75, and scored and folded it before attaching the topper with D.S. tape.
I crochet a tiny hat I had made into a brooch and attached it through the card.
I used 32 iridescent clear 8mm rice beads, 8 silver 7mm rice beads and 8 iridescent clear 5mm rice beads, and used the appropriate coloured permanent pens to colour these beads to complete this project.
I followed the same procedure, following the recommended stitching and beading guide for the darker threads, colouring and beads. I did not need to colour the beads for this project, so it was much quicker to finish but I have used more beads.
The outside circle is stitched in a dark green polyester thread and has 64 beads, in total, attached around the outer rim.
This consist of 16 silver and 16 red metallic 5mm rice beads and each of these have attached using the red polyester thread, alternatively a green glass seed bead or a red seed bead.
The leaf shapes are stitched with the same dark green thread and then coloured with a dark green water colour pencil, before attaching the 7mm long green glass tube bead and a tiny green glass seed bead to the base of the leaf.
The red circles are stitched with a bright red polyester thread and the tiny inner star shapes with a bright red metallic thread.
I then attached a bright red seed bead to the centre of each star shape.
As I stitched the central spiral I attached the red rice beads and tiny red seed beads in place, completing the spiral from the entre point as I worked my way around.
I had cut this white card backing sheet at 14 x 13.5cm and using a ruler and a red permanent pen outlined the outer edges.
I completed the stitching and attaching the beads before I attached this to a green backing sheet cut at 14.5 x 14cm and used a black linen finished card cut at 31 x 15cm to then attach using D.S. tape.
I used very fine lines of red peel off strips to define the black of the main card front.
In total I have used 16 silver 5mm rice beads, 24 red 5mm metallic rice beads, 32 red seed beads, 24 green glass seed beads and 8 glass 7mm tube beads to complete this darker project.
I then used some white card to draw some flowers, stems and leaves with a black fine line pen and colour them in with my water colour pencils.
This double project has resulted in 2 stunning cards that I am extremely proud to add to my home page.
At this stage I have no forever home to send them to, so I have not finished the inserts. Thank you, Emy, I love this mandala 2. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus
