Nick Bowley, has provided us with two card toppers, on the one sheet. This is what I call a bonus buy, as we can achieve two for the price of one. And as I love a challenge, I am able to use my own initiative to come up with two entirely different ways of displaying these designs as greeting cards. I printed off the sheet provided, twice, onto 200gsm white card. I worked with the peach oval design first, and cut out the elements and the peach butterflies from both sheets. I used an ivory, prepared card, the front of which, measures, 15 x 10.5cm, as the main card. I then used a peach coloured, rose embossed card, to make a backing sheet. I then added, peel off, copper coloured, strips, to the outer edges. I used one of the main elements, to back with 2 tiny, 9cm doilies, glued together with white glue, to form an oval shape, which measures 12.5 cm high. I attached this, to the back of the peach oval element, with tiny spots of white glue. I used, a, 6mm wide, bottle green, satin ribbon, to attach, horizontally, at the midway point, to the back of, the oval shaped doily. I then attached this, to the front of the peach backing sheet, with padded D.S. tape, and wrapped the green ribbon around to the back, and secured it, with power tape. This part of the topper, was then attached to the card front, with D.S. padded tape. I used the second peach main element, to cut out the individual buds, roses and stems and leaves, that I had chosen to use, in a step by step method, to make the decoupage. For the decoupage, I used tiny, padded D.S. squares. I added the peach butterfly, and redrew the feelers, using, a black fine line pen. I made a bow, and an oval sentiment, to complete the card front. For the insert, I used the same peach rose embossed card, to make, a very simple flower, stem and some leaves, and using pens to colour some of the items. I have a tutorial to make this simple flower on this web site.
For the mixed flowers oval design, I followed the same steps as above, using one element as the main topper. However I made a completely different backing sheet. For this backing sheet, I made a template of the oval and enlarged it by 5cm, all round, so that it now measures11.75cm high and 9cm wide. This wider area, I coloured with a green permanent pen and then used a liquid glue gold dust medium to paint liberally over this green edge. This took some time to dry, so I went ahead and made up the rest of the card. I used a prepared, very pale pink, coloured card, the front of which measures 15 x 10.5cm. I edged this all round, with gold peel off strips. For the backing sheets, I used a, green card, cut at 14.5 x 10cm, 2 lengths of paper lace,15.5 x 2.5cm, and a deep rose coloured card, cut at,15.5 x3.5cm. I then used the same gold peel off strips to edge the deep rose coloured card. I attached the paper lace to the back of this, using tiny spots of white glue. I centred this onto the green card, folding the excess rose and white lace, over the back and securing it all with power tape. Once the gold edged oval, was dry, I attached a short, 2.5cm wide, length, of green organza, ribbon, 2.5 cm down, from the centre top, of the gold frame, securing it with power tape. I then secured this to the green backing sheet, wrapping the ribbon around to the back, and securing it all together, with power tape. I was then able, to use padded D.S. tape to attach this backing sheet, to the card front. I then used padded tape, to attach the main element to the front. I then used the second copy, of the mixed flowers element, to cut out the main white flower, using the larger centre part only, but including, the three lower green leaves. I then cut out the deep pink flower, also, using only, the centre part of this flower. This gave the flowers, a 3 dimensional appearance. I made a simple bow, and added the butterfly at the top left hand side, and re drew the feelers as before. For the insert, I used a slightly darker pink backing sheet, cut to fit the card, and, added a strip of paper lace, and the pink butterfly, with a hand written hello sentiment.
These 2 cards, are suitable for so many occasions and celebrations, and a design, I will keep in my stash, as these both make almost instant toppers, for a very simple quick urgent response type of card.
Thank you Nick, I love these 2 deigns.
