Holiday Travels

Even though I have a broken shoulder, we made our City of lights Viking river cruise trip. We started in Prague, Czech Republic and ended in Paris, France. One highlight was the Rhine river travel through an area of many castles. We toured one castle that was over 50% restored.

Wonderful artwork and original features.

I Want........

To be a cat. Look at this little cutey! She sure has the life. Wakes me up about 5am so I can let her out of the bedroom. She goes loo and then has a munch on her kibble and within 20 mins shes back on the bed.

So as hubby and I get up and go about her day, where does she spend the day? Curled up (or stretched out) on our bed only venturing out at lunch time to see if there is any tasty morsels to be had.

If not its back to bed.

She comes out again around 4.30pm trying to tell us its dinner time but she has to wait till just after 5pm for her dinner.

She is good on the weather forecasting though. If she washes over her ears guaranteed to rain within 48 hours. Lately its rained the day after we see her washing over her ears. So what a life she has…..sleep, eat, repeat!

Cucamelons!

A few years ago, my husband bought Cucamelon seeds online. They grew so much that we had to buy two giant pots for them. When they started to flower, something looked familiar about them, so I checked online and they were actually chillies! We were disappointed but had to laugh.

Fast forward to this year, he tried again. This time, the plant grew like a vine, as it should. A few weeks ago, the first little flowers appeared, which are now turning into the fruit cucamelon. Cucamelons are native to Mexico and Central America, where theyve been cultivated for centuries.

Despite their name, theyre not a cross between cucumbers and watermelon plants, but rather a distinct plant within the cucumber family.

Cucamelons are small, grape-sized fruits that resemble tiny watermelons and have a tart, citrusy flavour. I am not a great lover of cucumber, but cant wait to try one.

The Whole Tooth

Harry is at the age where he is going to be losing his baby teeth a time of it seems great expense for parents.

His first tooth had now come out to Harrys delight, but not so much for the parents as the Tooth Fairy fee for collecting the tooth appears to have risen to £5.00 per tooth.

This apparently now the going rate which is ridiculous. I remember as a child I got a sixpence and I thought I was rich. It seems to be more competitive now, with children getting a fiver. However, my daughter is determined the fee will be no more than a pound.

End Of The Summer Holidays

A few days before school started, we had all three of our granddaughters here for the day. Our son brought Daisy, the youngest, on the train, and our daughter brought Jessica and Imogen over so we could all spend a lovely day together.

We started by walking down to the beach for a paddle in the sea, and the girls hunted for pretty shells in the rock pools.

After going home for dry clothes, we went to the pier to play on the slot machines and go on the rides.

Then we went for a relaxing meal, followed by ice cream and doughnuts on the promenade. What a wonderful way to finish the summer holiday.

Now, Immy is back in school, Jess has started college, and Daisy has started big school. The picture is of hubbys impressive sand castle lol

Farm Fresh

Well its back to school and what a fab summer my two grandchildren have had. Theyve been to Spain, Alfie has been on a residential with AirPlay, theyve been to the cinema a couple of times and other events.

Their last weekend before school they were asked what they would like to do and immediately said the farm. Its a regular venue for them because they love it. Its not a fancy farm like others in their area. In fact it is small in comparison. There is no huge farm shop, only a small one, no frills or expensive play areas its all about the animals.

Its free and the only expense is if you want to buy feed for the animals. There is some childrens activities and a tractor ride but it is very simple. The children love it, they get close to the animals which is their joy. An inexpensive couple of hours where they love to go.

A ....

.... Lovely September Walk! I love to walk and I am very lucky to live in an area where I can walk off road for miles!!

One of my favourite walks is down 2 old lanes that are closed to traffic called Weavers & Kennel Lanes.

Its a triangular walk with a footpath connecting the lanes. There are lovely views from a number of spots on this walk, there is a lot of up hilly bits on this route though that is what makes the views and scenery sooo spectacular!!

This time I was taken by the lovely wild flowers along the fields and paths too!!

Early Retirement

On Tuesday, I worked my last day at Freddies of Pinewood to take early retirement. I had been there for 5 years, and as it is a very small team, it was a bit emotional on the last day.

I mainly worked with my boss, who is around my age, so we used to have some amusing conversations. The business is a 1940s and 1950s reproduction vintage fashion casual clothing brand, specializing in denim jeans, dungarees, skirts, jackets, as well as 1940s and 1950s knit tops for men and women, ladies blouses, reproduction and vintage workwear.

Think Marlon Brando, James Dean, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Marilyn Monroe.

I had fun and learned a lot about the era. But the time was right to relax and spend more time with my hubby. The first thing we did was book a weekend away. I will also have more time to pursue all my hobbies and more time for designing.

So, you will see a lot more from me in the future. I received this lovely houseplant as a leaving gift. It is called Painters Palette. I also received a £100 garden centre gift card, which I cant wait to spend, and a bundle of denim to make lots of handbags with.

Never Too Old To…

… read Enid Blyton. I recently joined a new Facebook group dedicated to lovers of Enid Blyton. As a child I loved her books, they encouraged my reading, they helped my spelling and also educated me on animals and nature.

When I received gifts of postal orders from relatives at Christmas and Birthdays, I couldnt wait to cash them and take a trip to the bookshop in town.

I delved into different worlds Enid Blyton created. Sometimes fantasy, sometimes adventures on a farm, sometimes mysteries, and sometimes boarding school. My very first book was The Book of Fairies and I was hooked.

Joining the group has rekindled such wonderful memories so I decided to buy a few well loved books. It was wonderful going back to Cherry Tree Farm which I have just finished. Now Im onto my next one and its lovely just to delve back to a time of innocence and happier days than what we are in now.

Inspiration On Trip

I made the astronomical clock card many years ago. I thought it was unique. Recently we took a river cruise and made a stop at the Prague Astronomical Clock. Its really a beautiful clock with many more layers than my card. We also saw other clocks on our trip.

They would make a good retirement card too.

Baby Sitting

Last weekend we had the pleasure of babysitting one of our fur grandbabies while our daughter was away enjoying a weekend of paddle boarding and exploring Lake Wyeba in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

This was a birthday present from a friend for her 40th birthday.

Although Jaylee has been down here for day visits with her mum, she hasnt stayed for a few days so we werent sure how our cat would accept her.

Well turns out Jaylee is scared of cats so although our cat was on guard, there was no problems at all.

She is used to sleeping in the bedroom at home but we werent sure how itd go with our cat on the bed and Jaylee on her bed in the room but amazingly there was no issues.

The grand daughters cat that also lives here was a different story. Apart from meal times we didnt see her for the whole 4 days Jaylee was here! She managed to find some well hidden hiding spots.

It was great having Jaylee here, she knows Nanny will always play ball with her so every time I went near the door, she was there with the tennis ball.

As her home yard is very small, she did enjoy our huge back yard and it became more of an adventure because the ball could be thrown in many directions.

I think now we will have her a lot more often when the daughter wants to go away.

Im not complaining because we love her - she is a gorgeous girl.
