A Friendship Bracelet with Hearts

This braided bracelet with a heart pattern is made from embroidery yarn in two colours. A two-part magnetic clasp is glued onto each end for fastening.

NB: A template of the pattern is available as a pdf file.

1

Cut four 2m pieces of embroidery yarn. Two pieces in one colour and two pieces in another colour. Assemble the four pieces, double them over and tie a knot, resulting in eight threads in a loop. Secure the loop in the clip on a macram board.

2

Arrange the threads as shown.

3

On the far left, tie the light thread twice (making knots) around the nearest dark thread. Keep the dark thread taut whilst pulling the knots all the way up.

4

Using the same light thread, continue tying two knots on each of the next two threads in the row of alternating light and dark threads.

5

Repeat at the opposite side (mirror imaged); on the far right tie the light thread twice (making knots) around the nearest dark thread. Keep the dark thread taut whilst pulling the knots all the way up.

6

The two light threads that have been used for tying knots, are now in the middle. Tie these together with two knots.

7

On the left, tie the light thread around the dark thread farthest out with two knots.

8

Now secure this light thread in the clip at the top of the macram board. Repeat on the opposite side (mirror imaged); On the right, tie the light thread around the outermost dark thread with two knots.

9

With the dark thread farthest left, tie two knots on the next two threads in the row. Repeat on the opposite side (mirror imaged); the two red threads that have been used for tying knots, are now in the middle. Tie these together with two knots.

10

Remove the light threads from the clip at the top and add them to the other threads. On the far left, tie the dark thread twice (making knots) around the light thread. Now secure the dark thread in the clip. And repeat on the opposite side (mirror imaged).

11

Tie the light thread from the left twice (making knots) around the nearest light and dark thread respectively. Repeat on the opposite side (mirror imaged). The two light threads, that have been used for tying knots, are now in the middle. Tie these together with two knots.

12

Remove the dark threads from the clip at the top and add them to the other threads. On the far left, tie the light thread twice (making knots) around the dark, the light and the dark thread. Repeat on the opposite side (mirror imaged). Finish with two knots in the middle and the heart is now complete.

13

Continue the described process until the bracelet is the desired length. This bracelet has nine hearts.

14

Gather all threads in a tight knot close to the braided section of the bracelet. Twist the threads very tightly and secure them onto the board with a clip. Glue the ends and let them dry. NB: you may trim the threads close to the knot so that the end piece is kept as thin as possible. The glue prevents the threads from fraying.

15

Glue the two-part magnetic clasp onto the bracelet; one piece at each end. Use Clear Multi Glue Gel.
