It is possible to make beautiful icicles and hearts from silver-plated wire and drop-shaped glass beads. They can be used as Christmas tree decorations, on a curly willow branch or in the window.
To keep hold of the wires at the beginning, it might be a good idea to fasten them in a crimp bead. You will use approx. 85 small, 35 medium and 10 large clear drop-shaped beads and the same number of matt white glass beads.
Cut a piece of silver-plated wire which is twice the length of the desired icicle. Thread seven small beads onto the wire.
Double over the wire and thread it outside the first bead and through the next bead.
Pull the wires out to each side.
Thread small clear beads onto one wire and continue for 1/3 of the wire. Repeat with the frosted beads.
Now thread medium sized beads (clear and frosted) on 1/3 of the wire.
Finally thread the large beads (clear and frosted) on 1/3 of the wire.
Twist the wire to close it.
Make a loop for hanging.
Cut off the excess wire.
Twist the wires around each other.
This is what the finished icicle looks like.
To make a heart you will need two icicles and a thick silver-plated wire measuring approx. 30cm. Wind the two loops for hanging around each other so they become one loop for hanging. Wind each icicle around the thick silver-plated wire, starting from the middle and outwards. Wind the ends together at the end and now you can push down the thickest part to form a heart.
