Blackwork Art Deco Head
This is a blackwork Art Deco Head. It is all made in black DMC cotton except for the cross stitch surrounding the parts of the face - in red on the chart which is done in DMC Art 282 which is gold lurex thread.
Its very striking when made up and is in fact quite easy to do. Each part of the head is done in a different back stitch which can be seen quite clearly from the chart.
I made mine on 14ct Aida which was 9.4 inches x 10 inches when finished. On 18ct aida it would be 7.3 inches x 7.8 inches.
Each different section (pattern) is back stitched in black to make it stand out. Have fun with something a little different. I used one thread of cotton after it had been split except for the middle (the face) where I stitched it with 2 strands.
Instructions for the cottons are next to the chart.
