Do you have a dog or know a dog who has "accidents", or needs training? I will tell you, had I known of these belly band diaper wraps when I had a dog, I would have made a TON of them! lol I was asked to create this for my boyfriend's parents, who own, and show, pugs. I added the pocket when I made the belly bands for a customer who needed them for her Yorkshire terrier, and she asked me to add the pocket, and loved them ever since. They really work!
This is a sewing pattern to make a pug size or large toy breed, male dog diaper wrap / belly band. When finished, it will measure 27 1/2" wide by 8" long. The difference with this belly band / diaper wrap is that it has a pocket sewn into the inner lining, for a cut up cloth diaper OR maxi pad / sanitary napkin. The pocket for pad or cloth diaper is added protection, as opposed to other dog belly bands on the market that do not have them. It helps prolong the use of the belly band's lifespan. And you can make several belly bands, and use the pattern over and over again! Just apply clear contact paper on both sides, laminate the pattern, transfer the pattern to clear vinyl, or anything durable.
The pocket is made from stretch nylon, usually found in the knitwear / dance wear / swimwear section of the fabric store. The outer fabric and inner lining fabric can be made from canvas, duck, bottom weight cotton, denim, or use cotton snuggle flannel, both fabric pieces should be 28 1/2" x 9" each, Velcro or hook and loop should be each 7" long x 2" wide, and use 2 strips, so 14" long by 2" cut into two strips, straight stitched then zigzag stitched around the edge, 4 times around, especially the "hook" or harsh / rough part of hook and loop / Velcro. The pocket is 9" long by 18" wide, with left and right vertical sides turned under twice and hemmed, top, bottom and left side sewn to inner lining, for a finished pocket 16" wide by 8" long. The opening of the pocket will be on the right vertical side. The pattern is 4 pages cut out and taped together, with areas printed on the pattern, to place the Velcro / hook & loop, pocket centered, box to cut out, centered for elastic pocket area.
