This fabric face mask, made from this pattern, is not to be used as a surgical mask, or medical mask. This mask pattern is for a non-surgical / non-medical, cloth fabric, face mask. This mask is designed to cover a filter or other disposable masks, and/or be used for social distancing, when a person wearing it is around immuno-suppressed individuals, in care or in hospital, out shopping for essentials, to help those on the frontline as essential workers, cover their nose and mouth.

I saw custom face mask patterns, but I haven't seen custom printed, washable, inkjet printer fabric, face masks, out on the market. Mask makers have embroidered, and painted on fabric, but I haven't seen any masks with full, custom print designs on them.

Also, I wanted to see if I could fit all o the front panels onto one sheet of washable inkjet printer fabric, and the rest of the panels, for the back filter pocket, and elastic pocket panels, onto one piece of cotton. The question was, "How do I take a 2 paneled mask, front and back, and turn the pattern into a very compact pattern using the least amount of fabric? And, can this shrunk pattern still fit well on a woman's or teen girl's face?" Why, yes, it can be done!

So, I decided to take the pattern that I had been using, as per my local hospital's instructions to use the pattern that they authorized to make for donations, and modify them. Once I got the shape of the structures to fit onto one sheet of washable, inkjet fabric, I then used Photoshop to insert my formatted artwork inside the panels for the front left & right panels. I have uploaded a nice amount of my artwork onto face masks selling onto face masks at a print on demand site that prints and sells their products with our artist designs and artwork, so I figure out how to make them myself, with my art, and then make the face mask sewing pattern download printables.

This is a very simple fabric cloth mask to make. I can sew a mask in about 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes.

This pdf, A4 size sheets, has 15 pages, but you only have to print 2 pages:

page 3 for the washable inkjet printer fabric sheet for the front panel

page 4 for paper pattern, to use to cut out filter pocket & 2 side elastic pocket panels from 1 piece of cotton fabric

The main part of the sewing pattern & tutorial, photo & text, step by step instructions, links to buy supplies, and even an ideas page of photos of some of my masks, are from pages 1-11. The pdf comes with a table of contents on page 2, printable patterns on page 3 & 4, photo & text step by step instructions on pages 5-6, supplies list with links to buy the supplies and other pertaining info from pages 7-9, the ideas page of mask photos on pages 10-11. My journey in making the masks, how I go about designing, and my business products' story, with links to my products, patterns, social media links and more, on the rest of the pages.

Supplies needed:

1 letter size washable, inkjet printer fabric sheet - use brands Printed Treasures, PhotoFabric, Threads, Jacquard, maybe Avery

1 piece of solid color cotton, letter size, to cut out the back filter pocket, and 2 side elastic pocket panels, cut from the sides of the main panel - the elastic pocket panels get sewn to the extended sides of the left & right outer front panels

roll of thread

3-6" long or a little over 1.5 cm to 3 cm long pipe cleaner (or wire), ends folded

2 lengths of 1/4" wide or 6 mm wide elastic or ribbon, 1 foot each or shy of 1/3 meter each, for each ear, as ear loops, lengths fed through elastic pockets, and knotted, tucked back inside. If the elastic breaks, you can replace them.

optional filter fabric - recommended disposable surgical mask can be inserted in the pocket, or use Zep brand blue shop towels, cut slight smaller than the mask - i get up to 3 filters per 9 x 12 1/2" shop towel sheet, sold in 75 sheet pack for around $7

Lots more designs to come, to print, make, and to create sewing pattern download printables, for you to make!

Thank you!

The Dressage Horse art was created for a couple who came to my space at a craft fair, back in 2002, and asked if I made any type of horse art, dressage specifically, which is a type of English style of riding. I contacted them, and then they never got back to me. Shockingly, this is one of my most popular pieces of art selling on things from fabric, lamps, shower curtains, bedding, printables. I may turn the collage with it in into some more craft printables.
