Young Voices 2023 by Janice McFarlane

Last Friday my daughter, son in law and youngest grandson Harry travelled up to Birmingham to the Resorts World Arena, where Alfie my oldest grandson and others from his school were taking part in the annual Young voices event which happens at various arenas across the country on different dates. A gathering of hundreds of school children at each event come together to sing. The event also has other entertainment from pop groups, to a rock violinist and Heather Small from the group M People was at the performance where Alfie was taking part. The children were singing one of her songs, and of course she performed herself. Alfie enjoyed himself immensely as did the rest of my family.

My new hobby? by Sue Way

I have wanted a sewing machine for a while now. I used to have one years ago, but stopped sewing so got rid of it. I was a bit of a slapdash, freestyle sewer, but it worked for me. I work for a small clothing company that make reproduction 40s and 50s work wear. And my boss collects vintage industrial sewing machines. They also use some of them for alterations. He was showing someone a domestic sewing machine that he owns and I mentioned how Ive been wanting a new one. Well a few weeks later he found another domestic machine he owned and asked me if I wanted it! I was so excited, its from the 50s or 60s but in full working order, but it weighs a ton! Hubby has had to make me a work area for it so I can leave it up. I am nervous to start sewing again, but am collecting a few bits and pieces to get started. I am sure once I make my first item there will be no stopping me. Watch this space.

My ... by Carol Clarke

...youngest grandson, Austin aged nearly 8, was in the Gold Book at school this week for really good work at school. He was presented with his certificate in the assembly and, as you can see, he was highly delighted to receive it too! Hes exceptionally good at reading and he tries hard and achieves great work in all his subjects so it was lovely to se him being rewarded for all his hard work!

To mow or not to mow that is the question by Amanda Assenbruck

Of course i am pretending there is an option not to. We have had 4 inches of rain in a week, spaced over 3 days. We did need the 1st inch as it was getting dry, the dam and tanks were still ok but it just kept coming. The lawn is now very lush and green and lovely underfoot. I know i shouldnt complain because they do say we are coming into a new El Nino pattern after the last 2 years of La Nina but OMG it has been so hot this week where the rest of the summer has been quite mild. It is supposed to cool off in a few days then it will out with the lawn mower.
