Wax on, Wax off! by Janice McFarlane

I wonder just how many sports my grandson Alfie hopes to master, I think he will be good at them all. He is just that kind of kid who loves trying out new sports and seems to excel at them all. There isnt one that stands out as his favourite. His latest adventure down the sporting path is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Now amittedly I had never heard of it, I knew of Jiu Jitsu not BJJ, and to be honest all styles of martial arts are a little kung fu to me, so after looking it up on good old Wikipedia I discovered BJJ approaches self-defense by emphasizing taking an opponent to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. It revolves around the concept, taken from traditional Japanese jūjutsu, that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution. Now Alfie isnt weak by any stretch of the imagination, and although skinny he his strong, but he has taken to BJJ and loves it. Last weekend he gained his first badge on his belt and was well pleased. Look out Mr Myagi!

Gobsmacked by Vicki Avcin

I was adopted at birth and have known all my life that I was. My (adopted) parents used to say I was chosen rather than adopted as apparently they had a choice of a boy or girl and chose the girl. I have never wanted to know about my birth mother because to me the parents that chose me were my parents. They fed, clothed, changed my pooey nappys and put a roof over my head. They went without things to make sure I was raised in a happy loving environment etc. Just before my Mum passed (Dad died when I was 5) she told me that there was paperwork in a tin in her wardrobe but I told her I wasnt interested. So in the course of going through things after shed gone I found some paperwork about the adoption but it didnt have names in it. About 10 years ago (mum passed in 1999) I applied for my adoption records and wow……the information was extensive. Names, occupations, circumstances about why I was put up. My daughter has encouraged me to look so I went on a Adoption FB page and a lady did a fair bit of research, actually spoke to my BM but mainly to sus her out. BM actually did tell her some things but didnt deny the fact. Ive put it in the drawer and not followed through although I had an address and phone number until Christmas this year when my daughter brought me a DNA test kit. Well results came in last Sunday. There were 5 people on BM side and 1 on BF side that were high cms (1st and 2nd cousins). I sent them all a message and have 4 replies. One of them was my BMs brothers daughter. She said my BMs daughter would love to talk and I gave her my phone number to pass on. Well Tuesday morning I had an hours conversation with BMs daughter!! Very emotional, nervous and overwhelming. My BM is still alive and the daughter is going to bring it up with her in the next week or so. She had suspected a couple of years ago but her mother clammed up. Its scary but exciting so will be guided by what happens when the daughter has the talk. But after being an only child for just on 70 years I finally have someone I can call Sis. I have run into a dead end on the BF side of things though.

Todays designs could be used for Mothers Day or a Birthday. They are linked to all the other designs that are similar.

New Post Box Topper by Sue Way

We walked past the post box that has the ever-changing toppers the other day, and it is all ready for the Kings Coronation! As usual, the lady has done a fantastic job. With King Charles and the Queen Consort Camilla standing on the Union Jack. There is also a stagecoach and the crown sitting on a cushion. Lovely work. My end-of-month SALE is now on! I love zoos by Amanda Assenbruck

When we were on our holidays in Victoria we visited some lovely zoos. I did miss out on Melbourne Zoo, the oldest zoo in Australia as it was raining. But we did get to go to Werribee open range zoo and also Healseville Sanctuary and the new Kyabram Sanctuary where we saw these lovely little fellas. I absolutely love Meerkats, they are just so funny and sweet.

Birds by Tina Fitch

I caught some gold finches in the week at Latchford Lakes Lakenheath, I collected my new RF100-500 lens foor my new R7 Camera,We went to the nature reserve to see if we could catch any kingfishers but nothing was seen other than the common garden birds I see at home. Was nice to catch them in flight too, which I hadnt done before But they are quick little things. The colours are lovely too, in fact quite striking...They fed on the feeder for sometime before flying off.
