A Little Bit Weighty by Janice McFarlane

My grandson Alfie is a bit of a skinny Minnie, but he is very strong and has a six pack developing, enviable biceps and extremely fit for someone who is only 11 years old, its more the lower half of his body. He has no hips and what I call sparrow legs. Having said all that he does boxing, Brazilian jujitsu and has just been selected to play rugby at school. His dad on the other hand is a big fella and works out hoping to compete in the strongman competitions eventually. So when his dad Paul was invited to the Official Strongman competition held in Doncaster, by one of his friends who was a competitor he was keen to go, and Alfie went along too. It was a long drive from Oxford there and back in a day but it was an experience for Alfie who loved it. He even managed a couple of photo opportunities with a couple of competitors and to top it of Pauls friend won. I think Alfie will no be itching to have a go himself in the near future.

My ... by Carol Clarke

... youngest son, Paul, has been running since he was first spotted at a school sports day when he was about 12. The spotter was a Mansfield Harrier who convinced us that Paul was a natural runner and to take him to Mansfield Harriers twice a week to train. That first year he was selected to represent Nottinghamshire and so began his collection of medals!! Hes got sooo many that weve totally lost count!! He would have gone on to bigger, better things (and even got more medals too! lol) but he had to give up running for awhile when his children were small as he couldnt fit in running, working and helping with the children whilst his wife worked too. He has always loved it though and its fantastic to see how well he still runs. So much so that he is winning more medals (mostly gold ones!!) than he ever has! Both of his children now run too and theyve both started their collections of medals too!!

Back to Sewing? by Sue Way

I decided to tackle a proper bag for my next sewing venture. But halfway through cutting out the fabric, my confidence took a nose dive. So I put it to one side and made a simple hanging storage pod out of autumn fabric instead. Then I wasnt well, so didnt even look at my sewing machine for a week. Last weekend, I finally went into my sewing room and made the boys a bandanna each. The only trouble is that Daddy thinks they are too girly. But I wont be put off, and this week I have already finished cutting out the rest of my bag. I will make it! Watch this space for the big reveal lol
