New Year, New Bedroom by Janice McFarlane

Christmas seems like it was months ago, but here we are a couple of weeks into the new year. My grandson Alfie was due an upgrade to a more grown up bedroom. A one that would last him a while, and be more functional to his needs. So last weekend my daughter and son in law embarked on a mammoth task. It was decided to get rid of the double bed he had and get a single bed, which was a gamer bed with a tv at the foot of it. As Alfie boxes he already had a cou[le of things like a punchbag, and one of our gifts to him at Christmas was an interactive boxing pad. So he wanted more room for all his boxing gear to practice, The end result was perfect for him and he loved it, although I dont think it will remain tidy for long.

Christmas Beetles by Vicki Avcin

Here in Australia we have a very pretty scarab beetle commonly called a Christmas beetle because they appear around Christmas time each year. They have a beautiful iridescent gold colour although the colour can vary to a reddish colour or even a blue/green colour too. They are predominately found on the east coast of Australia from Victoria in the south to the top of Queensland although they can also be found scattered in areas right across Australia. They are about 2cm to 3cm in length and there are 36 species all native to Australia. The larvae are a C shaped grub (curl grubs) and often mistaken for widgey grubs that people remove and feed to birds or the chooks because they eat the roots of plants and grasses. These will also eat the roots of grasses but if one has a healthy lawn it wont do too much damage. These grubs will live in the soil for around 2 years before the beetle digs its way to the surface and flies away. There has been a depleted absence of these beetles the last few years but they are slowly starting to be seen in larger numbers over the last two years. I havent seen one for several years so was really excited to find a couple on our verandah over Christmas. They sure are worth finding and hopefully we will see more of them as we have a lot of bushland around here which is their preferred habitat as they eat eucalyptus leaves.

This weeks designs could be used for Valentines Day, Wedding or Anniversaries.

This time Austin, aged 8, decided hed like to join in with the baking (normally he doesnt so ot was a pleasant surprise when he did!) and his eyes lit up when he saw the electric mixer! lol We had a lovely time making Cinnamon Cookie Bear Cupcakes and decorating Gingerbread men .... Naturally we all loved eating them too .... They were yummy!!

Im Shrinking! by Sue Way

Every Christmas my granddaughters measure how tall they have grown over the year by comparing their height to mine. As you can see by these pictures they have now both overtaken me! The only one who is still smaller is little 3-year-old Daisy. Although I am sure she will be taller than me one day. Everyone says the girsl are so tall, but I must stress that I am only 5 2 I love seeing the difference in pictures, but I dont think of myself as small until I see them. I am back to designing my favourite 1950s ladies. I hope you like the ones I have uploaded, as I have many more to follow. I also made this cute owl mini kit as a request for a lovely customer.
