Hardening sand dollars will help them stay in good condition and reduce breakage. Properly treated sand dollars will also resist becoming smudged or dirty.
Steps
-
Make sure your sand dollars are clean, bleached and dry.
- Prepare a solution of white glue and water mixed in equal parts. Ensure that it has been stirred well, to verify that the mixture is fully combined.
- Use a clean sponge dipped in the glue solution, and cover the entire surface (top and bottom) of the sand dollar with the mixture.
- Allow the treated sand dollars to dry thoroughly.
-
Treated sand dollars may be used for craft projects or be displayed.
Tips
- Prop the sand dollars on something (like on inverted thumb tacks) to ensure they do not become stuck on the drying surface.
Warnings
- Maintain a clean work area to ensure dirt and debris does not stick to the sand dollars.
