Hardening sand dollars will help them stay in good condition and reduce breakage. Properly treated sand dollars will also resist becoming smudged or dirty.

Steps

  1. Make sure your sand dollars are clean, bleached and dry.
  2. Prepare a solution of white glue and water mixed in equal parts. Ensure that it has been stirred well, to verify that the mixture is fully combined.
  3. Use a clean sponge dipped in the glue solution, and cover the entire surface (top and bottom) of the sand dollar with the mixture.
  4. Allow the treated sand dollars to dry thoroughly.
  5. Treated sand dollars may be used for craft projects or be displayed.

Tips

  • Prop the sand dollars on something (like on inverted thumb tacks) to ensure they do not become stuck on the drying surface.

Warnings

  • Maintain a clean work area to ensure dirt and debris does not stick to the sand dollars.
