Hats have been fashion statements for centuries. They are fun to wear, but sometimes they can get boring over time. If you feel that your hats need a makeover, well you came to the right place! You might want to start a new trend, or just try something new. You don't need to spend a lot of money. Take your style to another level and create a truly unique piece of clothing.

Steps

  1. Start by getting a hat you think needs a little touch of your style.
  2. Find things like buttons, ribbons, rhinestones, flowers, or souvenir pins. If you want to be a little more creative, you could try drawing on the hat with cloth markers, or you can use glitter, or sew, stitch, or crochet something on it. And if you are lucky and own a bedazzler, then use that.
  3. If you want to glue something on the hat, then it is better to use a hot glue gun. Use a small drop of glue on the hat and then press rhinestones, flowers, ribbons, buttons, or anything you want.
  4. If you want to stitch something or embroider something, draw the pattern on the hat first, and then stitch or embroider it on.
  5. You can also put pins on the hat to personalize it. If you put a soccer pin or a floral pin on your hat it might tell other people that you are interested soccer or flowers or something.
  6. If you want to draw on your hat, first be sure that is the design you want. When you are sure, then draw it on.
  7. A great idea is to tie a ribbon or a string around it to add maybe a burst of color or patterns.
  8. Another things you could do is sew different fabrics on it to match an outfit, or an item of clothing you might have. If you do that, be sure to cut the fabrics the right size and shape. Then sew it on with small neat stitches.
  9. To crochet something on, you should first crochet something such as a flower or a shape. Then put on your hat. Then hold the crocheted shape or flower against the hat and see how it looks. After you have decided where it looks best, take the hat off and sew or hot glue the crocheted shape of flower on. If you don't know how to crochet and you want to learn, there are several books at fabric stores or online.
  10. If you want to use glitter, use Elmer's glue and spread it all over the area you want to be "glitterfied". Put glitter on the area and wait one or two minutes. Then shake off the excess glitter.

Tips

  • If you are hot gluing things on, be careful because that glue can be very hot and you might burn yourself.
  • Lay out rhinestones and buttons and other things before gluing them on to be sure you like how they look.
  • Use hot glue instead of Elmer's glue unless you are using glitter because hot glue sticks better.
  • Lay out different things until you find something that expresses your style.
  • If you are using glitter or hot glue, make sure you have something like cardboard under or paper so the surface you are working on doesn't turn into a mess.
  • Make sure that when you put the hat on, it doesn't look stupid. Try putting the hat on before decorating it. Then see how the decorations look on you by just holding them against the hat. If it looks great then do it!

Warnings

  • Be careful with the hot glue gun!! It can cause serious burns.
