This is one of the many ways to make tie dye. Be careful while using some dyes around children and all dyes stain.

Steps

  1. Get a piece of fabric or shirt (ideally white cotton), coloured dye, elastic bands (number depending on the number of rings to create) and a small amount of soap.

  2. Rinse the fabric in water and soap, then wring.

  3. Pinch about 1 inch of the fabric at the center.

  4. Continue tying more elastic bands below each other, spacing about one inch apart.

  5. Soak the fabric in the dye (and salt) and boiling water mixture as instructed on pack.

  6. Rinse well in clean water.

Tips

  • You can get dye from any craft store.
  • You can also get elastic bands in most craft stores if there is a tie dye section.


Warnings

  • Wear unwanted clothes as you may stain them with dye!
  • Wait at least 72 hours before washing this as the colours might seep into other fabrics/garments.
