Do you have old gloomy white shirts that could use a little color? Well then your in luck because the following steps will help you create your very own tie dye shirt.
Steps
- Get some old clothes on and spread some newspaper over your work space.
- Get out a bowl or tub and fill it up with lukewarm water. Add soda ash and a pinch of salt to the concoction for better results.
- Squeeze the water out of the shirt and then press it flatly over your work space. Then put a rod or wooden stick or finger (if thats the only thing at hand) and then turn it the same way until the shirt is round and flat.
- Carefully pull the object out from the shirt without messing up the flat round swirly shape of it. Then put several rubber bands over the shirt and several more on the other side.
- Dye your shirt. If you'd like to make your shirt rainbow than use the colors red, yellow, and blue. The other colors will form on their own. Almost like a real rainbow! But if you want to make a different kind just choose three colors and then put the dye on from lightest to darkest. Then do the same thing on the next side.
- Wait. Put your rolled up shirt into a ziplock bag and then wait for 24 hours until you open it. After you've waited 24 hours you must rinse your shirt under water until the water runs clear.
- Dry your shirt out on a clothes rack or in a lighted room. Do not machine was your shirt or else the colors may not turn out. Finally when your shirt is dry, wear it, its drabbiness is gone just like that. And all your friends will want one too!
Warnings
- Please wear gloves when working with dye, it won't hurt you, but it will stain them. So you don't only have a tie dyed shirt, but also hands!
- Don't machine wash your shirt when its still wet or else all your other clothes may be discolored, wring it out manually.
- This may get messy.
