Balloons are fun decorations that people across the globe use to decorate venues for birthday parties, weddings, homecomings, and other celebrations. However, knotting a balloon often poses problems such as not being able to twist the material properly, letting the air out so the balloon loses its shape and buoyancy, or even bursting the balloon. To properly tie a balloon knot, you need to press the balloon against your body with the neck of the balloon facing away from you and stretch out the rubber so you can proceed to tie the knot. Read the following steps to learn how to knot a balloon.

Steps

By Hand

  1. Inflate the balloon to the required fullness.
  2. Hold the balloon against your body.
    • Your grip should be firm, but not so firm as to burst the balloon.
    • The neck of the balloon, which is the end of the balloon adjacent to the mouth through which you blow air, should be facing away from you.
  3. Grasp the neck of the balloon. Use your dominant hand, with the palm facing to the floor, to grip the neck of the balloon between your first and second fingers and your thumb.
  4. Stretch out the neck of the balloon. Use the first 2 fingers of your other hand to carefully stretch out the neck of the balloon.
  5. Make a loop. Pull the neck of the balloon up and around the fingers of your non-dominant hand until it meets the body of the balloon again.
    • While you do this, rotate your non-dominant hand counter-clockwise until the palm faces upwards. The neck of the balloon should now form a loop around the first two fingers of your non-dominant hand.
  6. Push the end of the neck through the loop. With your dominant hand, push the neck of the balloon gently through the center of the loop you just created.
  7. Tie the knot. Withdraw the first 2 fingers of your non-dominant hand from the loop when the neck is passed all the way through. Pull the end of the neck tight so the knot doesn't come loose.

By Knot Me Tool

  1. Use the "Knot Me" tying tool. This works well to knot balloons that you've inflated with a helium tank.
  2. Attach the "Knot Me" tool to the cylinder of the helium tank.
  3. Inflate a balloon and remove it from the tank.
    • Keep the neck closed tightly by pressing the index finger and thumb of your dominant hand against each other around the neck.
  4. Hold the neck of the balloon beneath the tool.
    • Center the neck of the balloon at a right angle beneath the "Knot Me" tool, and stretch it at the same time.
  5. Loop the neck of the balloon.
    • Hold the body of the balloon in your non-dominant hand and move it up, over, and down to the other side of the "Knot Me" tool. The neck of the balloon should now form a loop.
  6. Slip the neck through the slot.
    • Bring your dominant hand, which is holding the neck of the balloon, up and towards your body. Slip the neck through the slot and release it.
  7. Remove the balloon from the "Knot Me" tool.
    • Pull the balloon off the tool. The neck will form a tight knot.
