A toy hot air balloon is a fun and easy craft to make with younger children or when demonstrating the properties of air in a science class for junior students.

Steps

  1. Assemble the items needed to complete this project. See "Things You'll Need" below.
  2. If you're filling the balloon with helium yourself, do so. Otherwise, purchase one already filled.
  3. Attach the two strings to the balloon. Attach at the end at which you knotted the balloon closed, and then tie one above the other to guarantee a secure fit.
  4. Take the tiny basket and tie the ends of the strings to it. Remember, this basket must have handles or it won't work!
  5. Release the balloon and watch it float up into the air.

Tips

  • Don't take this outside unless you want it to float away. Obey all laws with respect to littering.
