Have you ever seen a purse made of glued potato chip bags? Shrinking them is the first step to making your own. Also, a fun craft for preteens and artsy people, your shrunken bags can be framed. Also, you can do this with other bags, like Capri Sun and Skittles.
Steps
-
Open a bag of crisps/chips. Aluminum lined bags are ideal.
-
Empty the bag. Take extra efforts to remove as many of the crumbs as possible. Use a paper towel to wipe off much of the oil on the inside of the bags.
-
Place the bag in a microwave on high power for 5 seconds. Keep your eyes on the bag at all times. If it starts to spark turn off the microwave immediately. Ovens are more efficient for the experiment but Microwaves are more accessible. If using a oven set to 350 and allow the bag to remain in the oven for still 5 minutes.
-
Allow the bags to remain inside the microwave/oven, to cool off before removing.
-
Enjoy your new tiny bag!
Tips
- The bags will be hot after first leaving the microwave, be careful not to burn yourself. Allow it to cool inside prior to removing it.
- Keep your eyes on the bag inside the microwave to make sure that it does not spark, as it can start a fire.
- After the bags leave the microwave they will be hot so handle them with care.
Warnings
- The bag may spark and burn, be careful. If you hear a noise, shut off the power immediately.
- Also beware breathing in the chemicals emitted from the packaging when heated. There is no telling what dyes, glues and plasticizers might be giving off fumes, so ventilate the area well and do not allow babies, infants or children in the vicinity of the microwave for about half an hour afterwards. Also, don't use the oven to cook for about the same amount of time and leave the door open.
