If you're putting on a puppet show, or bored on a rainy day and you're wondering just what to do, don't fret - make a tennis ball puppet! Find a tennis ball around the house and make a puppet in 5 easy steps.

Steps

  1. Find a tennis ball. It doesn't really matter whether it is old or new, as long as it is clean.
  2. Make a smile for your puppet. Use a box cutter, scissors or a knife to cut a curve into a smile shape. Follow the grey line of the tennis ball on one side, as this will be easiest to cut along. The width of the smile is up to you but don't make it too long or it might split the ball in two.
  3. Decorate your puppet. Use crafty bits that you have around the house. For example, felt, googly eyes, paper, etc. Be creative with these items and give your puppet a face: eyes, nose, ears, hair, freckles, teeth - whatever you fancy. You can also use a marker for some of the features, such as eyelashes or freckles.
  4. Allow all the items to dry before using the puppet.
  5. Make your tennis ball puppet chat. Squeeze the sides inwards to make your puppet appear as if it's talking.

Warnings

  • If you don't know how to use scissors on hard-to-cut objects, have an adult help you when cutting.
  • The ball will be fairly tough to cut, so you need to take care and cut it on a flat, even and non-slippery surface.
