Have you ever seen a big lump of yellow gooey stuff on the grass or a log in your garden? You may think it's only some redundant fungal growth, but there is a whole lot more to a Slime Mould than that! Here are some tips to have fun with it.

Steps

  1. Jars
     Jars
    Put on some plastic gloves and pick up the ball carefully (you may want to use both your hands for this). Then, deposit it in an empty jar, or any vessel which is appropriate.
  2. Cheerios
     Cheerios
    Feed it some cereal bits like some oats or cheerios (make sure you don't add any milk and give it only one or two bits).
  3. 3D Maze
     3D Maze
    If you have a toy maze which is 3-dimensional, you can place the Slime Mould at one end of the maze and put some food at the other end. You will find that it moving across the maze to get the food!
  4. If you are good with maps you could place the slime on a table, pretending it's Manchester, then place oats or cheerios where other cities are. It will seem as if it is showing the main motorways to the different towns and cities!

Tips

  • Try and get a few samples just in case your slime runs out or dies!

  • Check and make sure that the slime is not poisonous before handling it. Always use gloves while handling it.
