A simple craft like this one can keep the kids busy for an afternoon. Invite their friends over, each bringing their own soda can, and have a "make a pencil holder party."
Steps
-
Give each child a glass. This is to pour the soda into. Alternatively, save up old cans and use these as part of a lesson in reuse and recycling.
-
Rinse out the can and dry it well.
-
Using a can opener, remove the lid of the can.
-
Pick out a different colored or patterned piece of paper for each can. Decorate it using markers, crayons or stencils. Each one of the participants can have fun trying to make his or her own pencil holder different, using a variety of craft decorating items such as feathers, glitter, goggle eyes, straws (arms), felt etc. Some of these items are best stuck to the can after the paper has been added to the can.
-
Apply glue to the can, and wrap the pre-measured size of paper around the can. Allow it to dry.
-
Enjoy!!
Warnings
- This project uses cutting tools and a cut can has sharp edges. Make sure children have adult supervision. Be careful!
- Careful the top rim will be sharp, try using play-doh or magic model around the top rim to dull the sharp edge
