Stripes are a great way to add visual interest to any scarf or blanket. These stripes have to have 2 rows each, unless you want to use more than 2 colors.

Steps

  1. Crochet two rows of your first color. (We'll call this blue, so that there is no confusion. Of course, your yarn doesn't have to be blue.)
  2. When you get to the end of your second row, take your second color and tie a slip knot with it onto your hook. (Make sure your crochet stays in the last stitch of blue.) We'll call this color purple.
  3. Repeat the following until desired length:
    • Using purple, chain one. Then, double crochet into the second chain of blue, and continue crocheting as normal.
    • When you have crocheted two rows with purple, take the tail of blue and slip stitch, so that you only have blue on your hook.
  4. When you reach desired length, tie off your last color and snip both colors of yarn.

Tips

  • Don't worry about cutting the second-to-last color yarn. It will not unravel.

Warnings

  • Be careful to count your stitches. A safe bet for a scarf would be 30 stitches. For a baby blanket, 150. For a full-sized blanket, 350.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 skeins of acrylic yarn (In two contrasting colors.)
  • A size I crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
