How to Crochet a Baby Bib

A traditional, old Anne Orr pattern for crocheting a baby's bib. This might be suitable for a special occasion such as a Christening, a family anniversary or birthday party or any other occasion where dressing baby up is required. This pattern is delicate and might benefit from being updated as described under "Tips".

1. Crochet as follows:
   
   • 1st row - 13 sp.
     
     
   • 2nd row - Increase 2 sp on each end, follow design pictured, increasing as shown in design (click on design to increase size of photo).
     
     
2. Crochet the edge for the bib.
   
   • Fasten cotton in sp, * 10 tr in 2nd sp, 1 s st in 2d sp. Repeat from *.
     
     
   • 2nd row - " 1 s st over s st, ch 1, 1 tr over each tr with 1 ch between each tr, ch 1.
     
     
3. Repeat from *.

• Crochet bibs are not exactly the most washing friendly bib available these days, so it is recommended to sew the crochet work onto an easily cleaned plastic backing sheet. You might also add plastic piping around the edges of the bib as you join the crochet piece to the backing.
