Here are some simple instructions on how to make a crocheted bag using only the single crochet and chain stitch.
Steps
-
- Single crochet back along your chain.
- Make a chain every time you get to the end of the row, and then single crochet back along the opposite side. (see sketch)
- Single crochet up to the height you want your bag to be.
- When you get to the top of the bag, work a chain stitch to begin your strap. Measure the stretched length of your chain to get a comfortable length.
- Then, single crochet into the corner. Thicken your chain strap as you did the bag, row by row, until you have a width that is comfortable for you and can hold the weight of what you intend to put into the bag.
-
If you choose, you can make a flap for your bag. When you're back onto the brim of your bag, single crochet onto one side until you have a flap. If you don't want a flap, end it off after your strap.
