Taking small crochet projects along with you as you travel is a great way to combat boredom. Keeping a small bag filled with all of the essentials can take you anywhere, from around the block to around the country.

Steps

  1. Pick a small project or two that you can leave in the bag.
  2. Choose a small amount of yarn and place it in the gallon zip top bag.
  3. Place the hooks, scissors, nail file, band-aids, and stitch holders in the pencil pouch.
  4. Photocopy patterns and put them in another of the gallon zip top bags.
  5. Place everything in the bag and keep it in your car or where you can grab it to take with you.

Tips

  • While crocheting, keep the yarn in the plastic bag so it stays clean and tangle free.
  • Choose easy projects and start them at home before you leave. That way you can just start crocheting.
  • Pot holders, hot pads, dish towel toppers, or granny squares are good choices.
  • The nail file and band-aids may seem strange items to include, but they will save you a lot of frustration if you break a nail or get a minor cut.
  • Keep your tools inexpensive, just on the off chance that you misplace your bag.
  • Photocopying your patterns also will protect you in case of loss as well.
  • Roll up your yarn into balls. It makes crocheting much easier while you are away from home.

Warnings

  • If you are traveling by airplane, security may not allow you to take some of your crocheting tools on the plane. Call your airline ahead to check on what is allowed. Be prepared and bring a postage paid envelope with you, so you can mail prohibited items home instead of losing them.
  • Take an empty dental floss container with you. You can use the little metal tab to "cut" yarn. Just leave a little extra so you can trim it up later.
