There are countless knitting patterns, from books to websites to magazines to tons of other media. There's almost too many! It might seem to the beginning knitter that most of these patterns cost lots, but in fact there are hundreds, even thousands of patterns easily obtained for free.
Steps
-
Check out you local library. They're sure to have a section, however small, on knitting, and the books there will certainly have patterns.
- Search "free knitting patterns" on any search engine: Google, Ask.com, etc.
- Check out websites.
- Join some online knitting communities. One of the best is ravelry.com (sort of like a Facebook for knitters), but there are several others out there. Most yarn companies have a site with some free patterns; for example, Lion Brand Yarn, Berroco, and Bernat all have a catalog of free patterns.
- Sign yourself up for some periodic free emails. Knitting Daily and Tahki Stacy Charles, Inc., for example, offer periodic updates, with both interesting articles and - you guessed it - free patterns.
- Keep searching. I have outlined the first steps in finding patterns, but it's entirely possible you may find other, maybe even better, methods.
-
Have fun knitting!
Warnings
- Be wary of online communities that charge for membership. They may be a scam.
