When you're knitting, it can get boring just to have solid blocks of color, and in some cases even painful to the eye. Variegated yarn can usually fix this problem, but there is another solution-to use several strands of yarn at once. Pair this up with chunky needles and you can have a very fast, colorful piece of knitting.

Steps

  1. Get all the equipment you need together (see "What You'll Need", below).
  2. Twist all the yarns together into one strand. From now one, treat them as one strand, even if they untwist.
  3. Cast on. If you don't know how, read this article.
  4. Start knitting! This works with just about any stitch, technique, texture, yarn type, etc. It's not much harder than handling one ball of yarn.

Tips

  • Choose colors that are similar and don't clash. For instance, light blue, navy blue and regular blue would work well. But be creative!
  • It's easier if all the yarns are the same weight and texture. When you've mastered this technique, you can experiment with mixing different textures such as mohair and ribbon.

Things You'll Need

  • Some balls of yarn (preferably in matching colors)
  • A pair of chunky needles
