Knitted belts are a great way to put your new skills to use because they are quick to make and can be adapted to fit any size waist. If you want a wider belt than this, simply cast on more stitches.
Steps
-
Leaving a tail of yarn about 20 cm (* inches), cast on 9 stitches.
- Work rows in knit stitch until your work is long enough to wrap around your waist or hips, plus a little extra to fold back over and attach.
- Cast off, leaving a tail of about 20 cm (8 inches) before cutting the yarn.
- Wrap one end of your belt through the ring and use the tail of yarn to sew the end in place on the inside.
- Put the belt around your waist.
- Push the other end of the belt through the ring and pull it until the belt fits snugly.
- Sew a button to attach the end to the belt.
-
With the remaining yarn tail make a loop to fit over the button.
Tips
- There are many other ways that you can fasten the ends of your belt together. Here are some easy ones:
- Simply knit your belt a bit longer and tie the ends in a knot.
- Sew Velcro onto the belt opening.
- Pin it together with a big safety pin.
- Sew on a belt buckle - you can buy these from a craft store or take one off a belt you don't use anymore.
- Sew on a big, statement button.
Warnings
- Be careful when you are using the large sewing needle
