A perfect toy for a baby or pet, this eight-section woollen ball uses up scrap pieces of yarn in your knitting basket and will only take a few spare moments of your time to put together. The original pattern is from Madame Weigel's Journal of Fashion and was knitted in eight sections, each section consisting of two colours. The colour may be changed as ofen as required, providing the wool is of the same ply. The ball is worked in garter stitch throughout, which is every row knit.
Steps

Knit a section. To make a section:
- Cast on 2 stitches and knit 1 row.
- 2nd row - Increase at beg. of next row. Knit 1 row.
- 4th row - Increase at end of next row. Knit 1 row.
- 6th row. - Increase at each end of next row. Knit 8 rows.
- 15th row - Increase at each end of next row. Knit 8 rows.
- 24th row - Increase at each end of next row. Knit 6 rows.
- 31st row - Increase at each end of next row. Knit 6 rows.
- 38th row - Increase at each end of next row. Knit 12 rows *.
- Change colour and work backwards from * reading decrease instead of increase.
- Cast off.
- Work 7 more sections in the same manner.

Sew the sections together, stuffing well before finishing the seam.
Tips
- If 2-ply is being use with 4-ply, it must be used double.
