In today's world, we all have to think of ways to economize and stretch our finances a little further. Here are several ways to have your knitting dollars make cents!
Steps
-
Shop online and save on gas. Shipping rates are probably cheaper than incurring the cost of driving. You can find great online discount yarn and book stores. Just simply google "yarn", or "discount yarn"
- Try 1 skein projects. There are many books on this.
- Buy used knitting books, or try and get hold of them for free.
- Check the web for free patterns. These can also be obtained by googling "free knitting patterns". Or simply search wikiHow for a viriaty of projects.
- Shop with a project in mind and stay with it. They always say shopping from a list is best.
- Yarn prices increase before a new season, so stock up at the end of the season.
- Organize a yarn swap or try a bartering group. Ravelry has a Random Acts of Kindness group based on gifting others, and you can post a wish list.
- Make projects that use up your stash, like hats, mittens, scarves, and baby sweaters.
- Inventory your stash - you'll be amazed at what you have, and this will help you avoid duplicate purchases.
-
Consider using your expensive yarn for trimming and accent areas and using a cheaper yarn for the majority of the project.
Tips
- If you have some extra yarn from a project, consider selling it on ebay, or other places like that. You can get some of your money back for the yarn you dont use.
- If you don't want to sell your extra yarn, you can knit little squares out of each color. After a long time, you will have enough to sew together and make a beutiful knitted quilt.
- You may consider having a monthly budget for your yarn. If you pull out $10 or $15 out of your grocery money(buying off brands) and that will be your money for this month.
