When covering a textbook it is nice to have something better than a plain paper bag, saran wrap (which is not sturdy enough to protect the book which is the whole point of covering it), and 'one size fits all' book, they don't fit all sizes, they're only worth it if you can get a cool on with a heat sensitive cover of something. Amazingly certain covers can even cure boredom in class (somewhat).

Steps

  1. Decide what to cover it with. Use something better than a brown paper bag, unless you want to draw on it (see the tips).
  2. Cut out the bottom of the bag (if using one). Cut the bag open to make a single sheet of paper.
  3. Open the book fully and lay it on the paper. Add three inches or so to the long edges and two to the short edges. (Measuring it would make it more perfect.) Then cut, and slit to fold around the spine.
  4. Fold in the short edges first. Then fold the space between the edge of the book cover and the edge of the paper in a diagonal line and tape, and fold the remaining side in the same way then fold in the long side.
  5. Close the book.
  6. Keeping the book partly closed repeat step 3.
  7. Now decorate it if you want. Put your name, homeroom, subject etc.
  8. Put a strip of duct or packing tape along the spine to reinforce it while the book is closed.

Tips

  • Instead of a paper bag you could use a bag with handles (this is good if you can manage to put the handles on the side of the textbook).
  • Make book covers with a 'theme' such as an old map for a Geography textbook or pieces of newspaper for English and etc.
  • Do not decorate or use fabric on math textbooks if you like to doodle when you're bored out of your mind.
  • You can use cheap fabric, fake furs are fun but can be hard to tape, so you can easily sew where you would tape as long as you have SOME ability with needle and thread.

Warnings

  • Really do step 4. This sounds unnecessary, but this is a very important step, or else you will not be able to close the book.

Things You'll Need

  • Textbook to cover
  • Paper or fabric to cover it with (see tips)
  • Tape
  • Duct or packing tape
  • Markers and other decorating stuff(optional)
