Want to sneak an iPod into class? If you have wireless earbuds, this is one way to do it. Keeping your iPod stored in a book is also a good way to guard against theft! Bet you the teachers never thought of this one!

Steps

  1. Gather your supplies, listed in the "Things You'll Need" section below.
  2. Leave the first quarter of the book alone.
  3. When you are through the first quarter of the book, mark an outline of the iPod on the page using a pencil or pen but NOT marker.
  4. Keep the plastic sheet on the page and close the book.
  5. Make a solution of water and glue in the ratio 1:3. The mixture should be readily absorbable by the pages.
  6. Close the book and apply this solution on the pages below the plastic sheet.
Close the book and apply this solution on the pages below the plastic sheet.
Close the book and apply this solution on the pages below the plastic sheet. Keep a heavy weight on the book and let it dry. You will need to coat the pages with this solution twice more to ensure proper fixation of the pages.
  7. Wait for the book to dry, and then remove the plastic sheet and open the book at page where you marked the outline. Fold the back cover so that it remains unharmed.Cut along the outline with a craft knife. The slower you cut, the smoother and finer will be your protection jacket.
  8. When you neatly cut out the pages, smooth the pages from inside the 'hole' you just make by rubbing the blunt edge of the knife gently against the pages. Hold the open book upside down and slightly tap it to remove away paper dust.
  9. Glue the last page of the book to the back cover. Allow it to dry and then apply glue solution to the inner edges of the jacket. Allow it to dry and then coat once again.

Tips

  • If the book is large enough, you could drill a hole in an upper corner for passing a cord through for carrying. This would necessitate some sort of "latch" or way to keep the book closed. A large rubberband would do in a pinch.
  • You could buy a book from a thrift shop for a good price.
  • You can also cut a channel so your headphones can be plugged in while the iPod is in the case.
  • Measure approximately how deep your ipod is and mark that depth on the blade so that you know how deep to cut.
  • You might also try a single edged razor blade for cutting if you do not have an Xacto or hobby type knife available.

Warnings

  • Be careful with knives!
  • Use a book that no one will get mad at you for cutting up. (see tips)
  • Always use a sharp knife. It is very easy to get injured with a blunt one.

Things You'll Need

  • A book twice as thick as your iPod (a paperback is hard to work on but it will be better to use a paperback since it is easy to carry a paperback rather than a hard cover.)
  • A Xacto / crafts knife / blade (or any knife/thing which can cut paper)
  • White (Elmer's) Glue
  • Water
  • iPod
  • Plastic Sheet
