Making your own Halloween cut-out pumpkin card is a breeze following this easy tutorial. These cards are ideal for Halloween party invitations or for saying thank you to someone who has helped you out with Halloween events or during the Halloween season.
Steps
-
Assemble the items needed. These are listed below. Then, cut and fold the coloredcardstock to create a card shape.
-
Trace the pumpkin shape onto the front of the card. Do this with a pencil lightly enough so that you can see it but can also easily erase it.
-
Open the card. Lay it flat, having the drawing you traced on facing outward.
-
Using an Exacto knife, cut out the shape you just outlined in the previous step. It does not matter if you slice through the shape itself, as the part that is to be been removed will not be used again.
-
Open the card, and place the parchment paper in the center. Close the card so that the parchment paper is sandwiched inside. Trace the outline of the card on the parchment paper with a pencil so that it makes a rectangle the same size as the front of the card.
-
Remove the parchment paper from the inside of the card and cut out along the lines you just drew. Glue the edges of the parchment paper rectangle to the back of the front flap of the card. Only glue the edges. This now becomes the highlighting background to your cut-out pumpkin image.
-
Let the glue dry. Once dried, decorate the parchment paper to complete the pumpkin. One idea is shown in the image.
- You may also wish to add extra decorations, such as a border, glitter, etc. or write a message on the front.
-
Finished.
Tips
- Try to use a simple pumpkin shape so that it will not be too difficult to cut out.
- Feel free to cut out more than one shape on the card. A series of pumpkins could be cute too, or some ghouls, ghosts, vampires, etc. – draw and cut whatever you think will make your card look just right and that you feel able to cut around. Using Halloween stencils can make this easier to achieve with ease.
- Try using some of the patterned scrapbook paper that is semi-transparent instead of just plain parchment paper- it is available at craft and paper stores. Or look for Halloween sheets in the dollar store.
Warnings
- Use the usual precautions when working with a craft knife to ensure safety.
- Place something underneath the card when cutting out the shape, or the blade may slice through the card and scratch the work surface.
