Many things involve cutting, school projects, scrapbooking and many crafts. This is an article on how to create smooth, straight lines.

Steps

  1. Use a ruler or other hard straight edge to draw the line you will be cutting along. Use a pencil and keep this line very light.
  2. Hold the scissors in your dominant hand. Put your thumb in the small hole, your pinky, ring and middle finger in the larger hole. Keep your pointer finger outside of the holes, place it just in front of the hole, in line with your middle finger.
  3. Make sure you have a strong grip on the scissors.
  4. Hold the paper in your left hand.
  5. Open the scissors about half way and position them right at the tip of the line.
  6. Make a small nick
  7. Close the scissors a bit, so that they are about 1/4 open.
  8. Slowly glide them down the line until they are closed. Angle the paper to the blade rather than the blade to the paper.
  9. Continue slowly down the line in the manner described in steps 7 and 8.

Tips

  • If you have to cut the center part of a piece of paper, stab a small hole in the middle of the paper and then cut from there.
  • Go VERY slowly
  • On thicker things such as cardboard use the back of the blade and cut small nicks
