This is a great origami piece that's not too difficult to make. The resulting flower can be used as a decoration or as a gift. While this origami can take some mastering to make, the payoff of making a good looking one is clearly visible.

Steps

  1. Make a square base. If you don't know how to make a square base, learn here.
  2. Fold the left and right flaps so they meet in the middle.
  3. Flip the base over and repeat the previous step.
  4. Fold the top left and right flaps down so they meet in the middle. Flip the piece over and repeat this step.
  5. Fold the right flap up so it meets the edge of the paper. Do this again on the left flap.
  6. Make a squash fold on the left flap so it is open and lies flat. Repeat this step on the right flap.
  7. Make a mountain fold on one of the squashed flaps so it folds back in between the two faces of the piece. Repeat this step on the other flap.
  8. Flip the piece over and repeat steps 4-7.
  9. Reach into the inside of the piece and open it carefully with your fingers so it forms a bulb shape. Be careful while doing this because the piece can unravel. In order to prevent this, you can glue the flaps down to the piece if you wish.
  10. Curl the individual petals around a pencil.
  11. Finished!

Tips

  • If your flowers constantly fall apart when you are making them into bulbs, try to make stronger folds. You can run a ruler or your fingernail over the folds so they will stay in place more firmly.
