Okay, you've done it! The poster is nearly ready for the competition, or just to put around the school walls. Here's a guide on how to make your poster stand out.

Steps

  1. Draw a main picture, mostly in the middle of the page. You may also add details here that match your character. For example, if you were working on Betsy Ross, you might add a drawing of the flag she made.
  2. Write the main heading. This would be your characters name. Print neatly, straight, and correctly.
  3. Add a border. This is fun, depending how long it is going to take you. Just do a few squiggles or shapes and then color them in. You could even write the heading you have already in block letters.
  4. Get creative. Stick on stickers, or get little bits of tin foil and crêpe paper.
  5. Do a few cool designs and drawings.
  6. Outline everything you just drew. The border, the heading, stickers, rubbish bin, the lot.
  7. Color in whatever is white and shouldn't be.
  8. Label your character. Attach your summary in your best handwriting.
  9. Finished.

Tips

  • Bubble letters make great stand out headings or titles for your poster.
  • Stars are brilliant for the borders of posters or just cute small ones in the corner of your poster.
  • Impossible cubes are very tricky, but look great, especially when done with a highlighter!
  • Scribble hearts look great around the border.

  • Arrows are really cool on your poster, and even cooler when done with a highlighter. They are good for directing attention to certain parts of a poster.
  • A yellow highlighter works best with a black background. Pink is good with a light blue background, green is okay with orange and orange works with red and white.
  • In the middle of your poster have something that stands out the most, whether it is the title or a big colorful picture.

Warnings

  • Do not use too much glue.
  • Crepe paper is sometimes hard to stick on properly, so be careful.
  • When doing outlines, the border or anything straight, use a ruler.
  • Don't put any offensive language on the poster otherwise people will just look at it and go tut tut and go away.
  • Don't erase too much or you will leave sloppy lines all over the paper.
