News & Updates from Shirley Young
At this moment in time I should be on holiday enjoying some winter sunshine in Fuerteventura but Covid has put paid to that so instead it was a walk in the snow - not quite the same but it did look very pretty.
We are fortunate that we are only a five minute walk away from the Trans Pennine trail which has some lovely walks.
It used to be a railway line but was made in to a trail in the 1980s and is now very popular with walkers, horseriders and cyclists.
I was trying to take a photo of one of my cards when my cat Tuppence decided she would get in on the action by sitting in my photo cube.
How she managed to get in the cube without knocking the card over I dont know but she managed it somehow.
Needless to say if I try to get her or her brother to actually pose for photos they never want to co-operate and disappear as soon as the camera comes out !!.
One afternoon a few weeks ago we spotted a hedgehog walking across our lawn.
We were a little concerned as hedgehogs dont normally come out during the day but it didnt looked injured or ill so we just assumed it was hungy and we put out some cat food and water as that was all we had at the time.
This went down very well so we started putting food down each evening and and the hedgehog became a regular visitor to the extent that my husband made a little feeding station to keep off the rain - we call it the Hedgehog Cafe.
We were very surprised a couple of weeks later to see what we now assume is mum who is at the back in the photograph, turn up with three babies.
Not sure if dad is around or just leaving it all up to mum but the babies all seem to be thriving.
Having just taken down all the Christmas cards I thought I would share this special one sent to us by our neighbour.
She is very fond of our two little cats Tommy and Tuppence and made this card for us featuring a photograph of Tommy which I sent her last year.
Inside there is also a photo of Tuppence. The kittties are just over 18 months old so the Christmas decorations didnt stand a chance as they found them hard to resist but they are such fun that we hadnt the heart to tell them off.
