Every so often I have to give Popcorn a bath. He has a wheel and runs in it and when he runs, he umm.... goes to the loo.... so he ends up with what is known in the APH world as Poo Shoes.
This little man most of the time is rather huffy with me and won't let me hold him. But when it comes to bath time I can hold him, trim his toe nails, look in his ears and just basically check him all over as a good carer should do on occasions.
Afterwards we tuck him up in some fluffy fleeces and we have a nice cuddle until he dries off. As a treat he gets some dried meal worms. :) I also want to thank all my customers. I was able to give a donation to Vale Wildlife Rescue from my sales last month. :) Thank you!!!! These are two of my Hedgehog designs.
We had a lovely day on Tuesday and so I thought I would take Popcorn out for a little fresh air.
He was really enjoying being outside. Some of my Male card designs that can be used for various occasions.
I had been searching for a playpen for my little APH(African Pygmy Hedgehog) and a friend on facebook said to check out the ball pits at Argos.
I ordered two!! They were on sale. So Popcorn now has a lovely playpen to keep him safe and contained too.
He was checking it out yesterday for the first time. Roxie had to get in on the fun and kept wanting to join him in his new pen. The other one I will save for baby wild hedgehogs I get in to care for. That way they can have a safe run around too.
Please keep an eye out for waking hedgehogs in the UK. If you could put some cat biscuits and a little bowl of water for them that would be great and give them a good start.
It will mainly be boys at the moment the girls will be waking in a few more weeks. Thanks!!
Hubby and I decided that it was time that we added a new member to the family. We contacted a couple of rescue centres and a local one said they had some little ones like we were looking for.
So off we went thinking we would end up with Dolly, but instead it was her sister Roxie who won our hearts.
She kept going back and forth to the pair of us and playing ball and her eyes just never left either of us.
So after a few days and all the stuff you have to go through we now have Roxie living with us.
She is such a lovely little dog!!! So well behaved and loving little dog. She is 8 years old and is a Pomeranian and Papillon cross.
One website calls them Paperanians... what beter dog to have for a card maker designer. :) It has been a bit of an adjustment but the cat is coming round and with this being Hubby's first dog he too has come to love her as much as I do.
She is a right little character and loves to play fetch with her favourite tennis ball. I can definately recommend if you are going to adopt an older dog is brillant!!!! Even if they do snore when they sleep. :) And don't let those little legs fool you!!
She likes to go walkies at a good clip! And reminds me of that battery bunny that just keeps going and going!!!
Along with spring comes baby birds... You all know I look after baby hedgehogs here, but my friends look after more than just baby hedgehogs. They sometimes look after baby birds and other little orphaned animals too.
I came across a site on the internet that had a free crocheting and knitting pattern for little nests for birds and baby animals such as rabbits.
I asked a friend if she would like some and she said she would. So I got out my crochet hook and some of my wool stash and made her up some little nests.
She posted the photo of the baby birds in one of the nests on Facebook and well as they say the rest is history.
The other rescue centres all wanted some. So my crochet hook has been going non stop just about since then. I have made well over 30 nests so far and I sent out my next lot to some of the carers.
And one posted this photo of the baby pigeon in one of my nests.... I really think I better start making some much bigger ones too.
I posted the photos up on the forum and Janyce Cotterill suggested I might put this in a news article and if there are any other knitters or crocheters out there willing to do some they can contact me.
I can send patterns and if you have a rescue centre near you or you can send to me and I can pass them along to the rescues needing them.
I have even been contacted by a German rescue centre!! :) And one of the ladies has passed on the patterns to her daughter for a rescue in the US. :) And the little bird on the design sheet is a little rescue bird too.
