News & Updates from Patricia Platt
I bought one of those elf on a shelf dolls and thought I would take it into Dialysis and cheer up some folks.
But the only ones that were cheered up where my nurse and another one. No one else seemed to notice what this little elf was up to.
Oh well. Will give it a try again on Saturday. It is a bit of a sombre place there sometimes. But I think a little laughter sometimes helps.
This pair is almost finished. I just have the toe to do on them. They are for one of my nurses at dialysis. I will start another pair for Lea and then Gracy next. Then I will need to check my list for the other nurses.
They are keeping me busy. I did have a bit of good news this week. My fistula is going strong and has healed up. I learnt where the needle goes and tell the nurses so now they dont blow my vein, which can be painful and bruises my arm.
The surgeon said he is happy that it is doing well and strong. That means no more surgery at the moment. Which is brilliant.
Sometimes things in life stop you from doing things you want to do. I thought I would be safe and get a flu jab, well it went down hill from there about 5 weeks ago.
I ended up getting quite ill.
Not sure if from the jab or from some other virus going around. It wasnt covid thank goodness. But probably just as bad. I had blood work done and chest xray and even a prescription of antibiotics, but nothing seemed to work. Just time and rest. I still have a bit of a cough even now.
But I did try to do some designing, and I have a good friend expecting a baby so I wanted to make her some things for her baby girl.
I tend to crochet rather quicker than my knitting so I crocheted her a few little things up. I hope you enjoy seeing them. :) And in the meantime Winter is arriving. I still have the garden to tidy up yet. But it has been too wet.
Oh well, that is Life.
Well the garden is about over with for this summer, though it barely seems like we even had a summer.
I am going to try and do some fall gardening this year. And see if I can get a few things growing over winter.
One year I did manage to do some Broad beans and had a lovely crop of them in the spring.
However last year the harsh winter and snow killed them off so I only ended up with one bean plant that survived.
I do grow onions and garlic over winter and they do really well. And I tend to grow potatoes all year here.
Going to try some kale and Chinese greens to see what will do well this year over winter. I did buy a little pop up sort of mini cold frame/green house thing that I will put over one of my beds.
Even though I may not produce alot in my little garden it is a nice variety and keeps me active.
Hi all, I wanted to let you know, the procedure went well on my fistula. It did hurt a bit, but was soon over with. The surgeon stuck a wire into my vein and then a balloon and blew it up to expand my vein to nearer the surface.
It is still deep, But the last week or so I have had really good sessions in Dialysis. :) When they go to put the needles in it doesnt even hurt now. :) I will soon be going through another procedure, to remove the chest line out of my heart.
That was put in when I first needed dialysis. And I am looking forward to having it removed. If nothing else it means I can have a proper shower again. I have had the line in for over a year and a half now.
They dont like to leave them in for too long as they are afraid of infections. If infections set in it is directly into the heart and could be fatal. So soon things will be going better for a bit. Although Dialysis does take up alot of time, I go 3 days a week for 4 hours.
I enjoy looking at all the designs and cards that crafters make while sitting there. I sometimes take my small laptop with me and do a bit of designing. Though it doesnt have much memory so I am limited on what I can do.
